It is a no-strings-attached place to get rid of items you don't want and ask for things you do. The purpose is to keep items out of landfill. I've given away really nice stuff, and gotten a few things as well. It is worldwide so you will need to search the site for the group in your town.
-aumAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20440617.post-73073821186165544412008-09-02T09:52:00.000-07:002008-09-02T09:52:00.000-07:00Interesting that you named this little victim &quo...Interesting that you named this little victim "Scarlett"
like the woman of Tara
who knew "Tomorrow is another day".
Scarlett from Gone with the Wind was a strong survivor & a thriver.

I have been friends with pity party people like the friend you're describing here. I think I was in their lives just to give them the swift kick in the ass that says, "Look bitch, you can breathe! you are not bleeding out! Your heart is pumping properly! Therefore, you are THRIVING!"

Entitled, self pitying, people who have options (dancing is an option !) are reminders at best.
Reminders of what a blessing a good perspective can be.

If she is attractive enough to strip, then she can also work in retail sales, waitress, bartend. She has other options and the blessing of friends who are willing to help her get on her feet.
If she doesn't change her 'tude soon, she'll end up homeless or the abused wife of a well off man.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20440617.post-23560126010895094172008-08-21T18:54:00.000-07:002008-08-21T18:54:00.000-07:00Of course, beautiful writing. It's the path of least resistance.
My advice for Scarlett, if she was my friend, is to find a new "something" she knows. Or, like you told her, determine a goal, even if it means dancing for the short term to get there, for a more satifying life and future. I think spending some time in honest reflection, assessment, and contemplation of what she really wants her life direction to be would be good now. Once she is clear on what she really wants out of life, she can make a plan to make a break from dancing and pursue what is really going to make her happy long term.cosmiccowgirlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09392673002818633402noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20440617.post-23954771140829580652008-08-21T15:54:00.000-07:002008-08-21T15:54:00.000-07:00Amazing. But dancing your way out of desperate is a good one indeed. I love the tension in this piece. I especially love the end sequence about the life span of her stuff- where it goes after it leaves the last place it was. Sounds like my life, actually.

Once again, brilliant.davkahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05970105614312371980noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20440617.post-90378895543766678522008-08-21T13:35:00.000-07:002008-08-21T13:35:00.000-07:00Heartbreaking story, but beautifully written.I've ...Heartbreaking story, but beautifully written.

I've said it before, but the way you write is incredibly emotive. I can sense Scarlett's despair, can feel the heat of that mid-day Texas sun. I hate suggesting that they go back, but sometimes it's necessary.

I usually suggest a plan... sit down and write it out... I also recommend writing a list of boundaries. Then I check in with them regularly to see how it's going.

You're a good friend.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20440617.post-77668002232681858852008-08-20T12:51:00.000-07:002008-08-20T12:51:00.000-07:00This reminds me of the chronic pain a very loved o...This reminds me of the chronic pain a very loved one lives with. After a point, the pain sears itself into the brain's pathways. Even if the original injury is somehow repaired, the pain can sometimes remain.

I send healing light to your friend. I hope her pain pathways aren't yet seared in to her soul.Kelly Hudginshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12236835357270869744noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20440617.post-90543349387934421372008-08-20T11:51:00.000-07:002008-08-20T11:51:00.000-07:00And if you lose enough things, eventually you've g...And if you lose enough things, eventually you've got nothing left... :(Frankhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01640031109014198835noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20440617.post-63991242679943511212008-08-20T10:25:00.000-07:002008-08-20T10:25:00.000-07:00Yes.Yes.Krafty Like A Foxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15064157255683013477noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20440617.post-38607014226441716162008-08-19T21:36:00.000-07:002008-08-19T21:36:00.000-07:00Stories like this just break my heart, and remind ...Stories like this just break my heart, and remind me that maybe my hold on this new-found middle-class existence might be more tenuous than I admit.

I've collected and lost more than my fair share of those cardboard boxes.Clever Monkeyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14172418089478980338noreply@blogger.com
